>OK, one more post and then adios. The mistake you are making in this thread, Mike, is that you assume you know something about my thinking on wealth and poverty in general from the article link posted. However, you do not. You do not know what I think about poverty or inequality or human suffering or environment effects of consumption or my role and responsibility in it all or anything. Nothing. And so you make assumptions, which is entirely your prerogative, but they are nonetheless assumptions.

Again, fair enough.

As I said, in general, I see these kinds of articles, and I think there's a social norm, a custom of people grouping together to support the sentiment that's expressed. Its strength in numbers, and as a group they have a common a adversary. It is customary to lament us and our situation in light "them" and their comparatively larger financial worth.

And in general, I have made it my custom to point out that woe is not you, that you ultimately have so much more than the vast majority of the people in the world, and its your desire to have less people above you on the list, and your desire to spend the money you do have on goods and services that promote human exploitation.

If none of that applies to you directly, I apologize.

But its a common mentality, and having that mentality is IMO a bigger problem than being in only the top 1% and of the world and not say the top 0.5% in your wealthy country.
