Did a few XML-RPC connections from vfp to big iron before they switched to XML-Soap and Axxis.
XML-RPC was easier to handle, as the SOAP was tinged with new additions not available in old vfp SOAP.
Listen via Wireshark or something similar right from start - at best to a conversation running with another tool guaranteed to work ok.

been there, have scars to prove it ;-)
