Nope, they aren't. The statistics may put them into the same bracket, but their position in the overall scheme of things is substantially different. It's not even about money, it's about how many decisions about your own life can you make. A corporate drone can't make too many of them because he's still a wage slave, no matter how high the wage and whether he's in the world's top 1%. He can get fired tomorrow. He can't even decide to vanish for three days without having a big valid explanation. He can't even choose his own doctor, he has to go to one who's "in the system" with his HMO or whoever. His choices are pretty much only those that are on the menu, and he doesn't compose that menu.

>The American middle class wants the top 1% of America to cut them a break, but they would buy more iPhones.

No matter how stupid the victims, the nature of the crime doesn't change.

>They are expecting the top 1% of the 1st world to do for them something that they as the top 1% in the world at large won't do for the less advantaged.

I'm not expecting they'll stop cutting the branch on which they are sitting - they're doing great so far. I just hope that whatever hits the fan doesn't do so while I'm around.

>Not only that, but if group A did grant your wish and cut group B some slack, it wouldn't make the world a better place. I mean, group B would be better off: they'd have more money to spend on funding the exploitation of human beings in China.

And if they get even poorer than now, as is already happening, the China will prove to have been yet another bubble, when people start fixing their junk instead of buying the same things for the sixth time.

>All in all, as Bill Gates reports, more progress against disease and hunger and poverty happened last year than any other time recently.

Bill Gates cannot be trusted.
