>>I make (and spend) about $3000 a year... how much of that goes to supporting labor conditions in China?
Why choose China except to move consideration away from yourself? Fact is that you can manage on $3000/year because others are exploited to hold your costs down. Also consider that there are other nations where there is no food production exploitation. You could try moving there to practice as you preach, but then you'd struggle to live on $3K/annum. Alternatively you could move to the third world and live comfortably (at least compared to your neighbours) without needing even $3K.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
