I have implemented several C/S apps using VFP5 with SQL Server 6.5 and Oracle 7.3 & 8.0. I used a Compaq 7000 with 512mb ram, 91gb RAID, with a 100 mbit fiber channel between the server and the external storage device. The tables were over 1.5 million records and about 1 k length, with several tables linked together. Approx. 15,000 to 40,000 updates / month.

Using VFP as a front end was easy. I used a combination of Remote views, SQL passthrough, and server side store procedures. With all server tables indexed I had requirements that all records had to be able to be retrieved in less than 5 seconds. This on a NT 4.0 network with approx. 75 users. This was all done with very little problem.

I've done the same stuff using VB 4.0; not so easy. Lots of work coding.
