>>>>You may not be watching the Winter Olympics but I am really enjoying them. Almost everything about them is un-American. We don't know the athletes, not even our own. The events are not widely attended in the U.S. But they are amazing. To ski jump over 100 meters off a high launch is incredible bravery. This is the first time for women. Sarah Hendrickson of the U.S. is out of medal contention after being the prohibitive favorite before wrecking her leg twice last year. It's a miracle she is competing at all. I also enjoy watching the Scandinavian athletes This is their spotlight.

>>>To be perfectly honest (and I'm gonna date myself here), I much prefer the Olympics back when ABC was broadcasting them.

>>>NBC is SUCH a homer that it's really sad, especially for the Winter Olympics, when the US doesn't have as many good athletes as it does in the Summer. I watch an international competition to see international competition - and I'd like to see more than the US athletes plus whomever won the medals - just as I'd like to see medal awards ceremonies for other countries gold medal winners. It's kinda like wanting to watch March Madness and all they're showing is Duke and NC - and when they lose out, we just sort of wander away aimlessly.

>>I haven't watched too much of it, since life is busy. But I've been noticing less of the "homer" stuff than I remember in the past. They seem to be showing the cream of the crop in each sport I've seen. Yes, they pay attention to the Americans, as is reasonable for an American broadcast, but not just those. (And, in fact, last night, showing the pairs figure skating, they didn't show the two American pairs at all--bit of a disappointment since one of the men is from this area.)

In the bits I've watched, I haven't seen any awards ceremonies. Fine by me, since I'd rather see the sports.
