I wasn't able to find any issues with my code. I spent quite a bit of time trying to sort it out. In the end I found an alternate arbitrary precision library that is not affiliated with GNU and it is working. I've posted the preliminary code, but will get it working in the near future.

Look out arbitrary precision bignum, here we come! :-)
