I wonder why the VFP community, who could achieve so much, and seemed so independent from Microsoft's hold, is so unable to build anything beyond VFPx.

2 years ago I suggested to build a foundation (VFPfoundation) to bring a common view across all the brilliant initiatives that appear here and there.

To me, the Visual FreePro project gathers the ingredients that have been tremendously successful for software that have become 'mainstream' such as jQuery, wordPress, and so many others:
- a brilliant and generous lead developer
- a large user base
- a solid foundation

What might happen is that the VFP community's average age is higher than that of communities like jQuery

Regarding the religious rhetorics behind Visual FreePro, though I don't care for myself (maybe because of my common background), I believe this might be an obstacle for developers from non-western countries where other religions prevail.
I wonder whether Rick could step down on this, or maybe write his posts in the religious chatter section in a more ecumenical fashion, just to avoid that people from other religion feel offended by what the can view as proselytizing.

Besides, based on my experience as a product designer and developer, I address all my respect to what Rick has done so far.

>There is always a first. I would say it depends mostly on how many resources are available (people and time) and which tools are used. We have done projects with minimum personnel and limited time in a period that was 20 times less than another team with many developers could achieve simply because we could make use of a stable framework which could easily be adapted to the project and provided all the necessary tools.

>I think the biggest problem would be if the project has to be done besides of a regular job because there is no funding. If the project IS the regular job then the chance of success is much more realistic. So that would be my worry in this particular case, and that probably was the cause of failure with the previous attempts by Christopher etc.
