as you don't describe the measurement dimension, first guess is saturation bandwidth - not too bad if it is based real disc data, lousy if based on interface. Even with disc based data read for each disc from disc, HDD might block due to head movement where SSD will deliver and saturate CPU.

but stupid if done on the same disc and aiming for performance - buffering helps a lot, but is only band-aid for design not thought through.
