>A few will run forever. I am always interested in new platforms/languages because I am easily bored and always looking for something new. Companies don't always have the same POV. They have a keener understanding of how much they have invested in the status quo. They may not know the specific details but have a wariness of the details that might bite them in the butt after transition.

The most important push for technical change, at least for my clients, comes from the marketplace.
If their clients demand something, as a rule, my clients react.
A recent example for one client is that several of their clients now want to place orders on a web site instead of via email or phone.
We could have futzed around with some of the VFP connectors, but decided to do it with PHP and MySQL.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
