For me it's not a matter of doing it better than the competition, though I believe the Journey design will be revolutionary, but rather doing it for Godly purposes, and Godly reasons. I desire to give unto the world the full fruits of the talents the Lord has given me.

>A bit of history - the early 1990's, Borland was looking at creating a "Turbo dBase", but scrapped

When decisions are made for money reasons there are constraints which do not exist otherwise. These constraints introduce harm to the greater number of people because the gifts God gives people (abilities to proceed) do not come with money concerns, but are gifts given with the desire for them to flow outwardly. The Bible says it this way, 1 Timothy 6:10 - KJV - "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." See: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Timothy+6%3A10&version=KJV

We remember that God made creation with its seed in it (open source). He gave the full DNA for every thing He has created. Any of us, were we to have the God-given talents and skills, would be able to receive that knowledge. But, as it turns out, it is far far and away beyond any of our abilities to understand completely, which stamps solidly the distance between us and God. As it is, we can operate at the level of the talents He's given us, and the opportunities He gives us. When we seek Him in this regard, we are operating at a maximum. When we seek other limiting factors ("can I make money on this?" "will this be better than the competition?") then we have constraints which limit the design.

Were all people working in Godly ways, serving God with their products, I would be modifying Visual FoxPro itself, making the product better for people with my special and unique abilities added on to all of the other people who would be working on it as well, as Microsoft would've given away the source code desiring that if anyone, including Borland employees, could do it better than they could, then that's what they want because the end-goal is to produce the best product possible, rather than some product that can be dominated through software licensing, patents, and enforced control constraints over use, none of which relate to the God given abilities and features of the digital world, but are only impositions atop that creation designed solely for the purposes of increasing self at the expense of the many.

It's no supposed to be like that. And I will take as little part in it as possible, striving ultimately to completely free myself from all of it, and living my life entirely in service to God as through my own tool sets, my own operating system, and if possible, my own hardware as well. I have these abilities, given to me by God, but my pursuits are not monetary, so the enemy of this world is hindering my progress. Yet, I persist and I have faith and I trust in God to move, and should it be His will ... it will produce fruit. If not, He will move me on to something else that will produce fruit because He knows my true heart.

>You really owe it to your self to look at what's happening with SQL Server - both the columnstore

I appreciate the advice, Kevin. I will look to the gifts the Lord has given me and operate within them. I have certain talents and abilities and I wish to exercise them. If there is any value to be found there, others will see it and use it as well. If not, then my offering will quietly pass away with no fanfare, and no harm, no foul.
