this is a problem with groupings and summary.

The report has 2 data groups but no summary band

My guess is that your total is in a report summary. Sometimes this ends up on a new page.

And your guess would be wrong <s>. The totals are actually in the detail band - the data has been munged quite a bit to put all the totals and such right in the detail band.
