This guy messed it up badly. Once he had 'peaceful demonstrators' on tape/record shooting people and smashing policeman's skulls with rocks,
(and provided he had bit more of moral integrity with the rest of the Ukranian people) he could have had law and order restored (by all the usual means it is done across the globe), in a week or two.. (Hence what would have happened to OccupyX movement had they took up the guns & rocks and went to Washington to try and storm US congress ? Well Yanukovich would need less then half of those roses to settle Maidan! {g} )

Top singers of western democracy tunes would have sang their usual democracy blues for some months, perhaps Yanukovich would have had some troubles travelling and moving his hard stolen cash piles abroad, but Ukraine and entire region would eventually settle after a while. But instead he choose to flee for Russia!
That was IMO critical point / mistake where whole battle was lost. Now it became regional if not Global
problem for everybody else to solve. Whole region will became unstable/unsettled for good. At best.

Infamous 'Mission accomplished' picture comes to mind.
