Last time I tried to use what passes for developer tools in IE, it was the different tabs in that tool.

Just to inform you, from the few web-dev companies from where I get some news from time to time, nobody even tests in IE nowadays. Using IE is pretty much a no-go. The usual dialog goes "I've tested this in everything - FF, Opera, Safari, Chrome, Konqueror and on six different phones. I guess this was as thorough as it can be." "Did you test in IE?" "Oh c'mon, nobody does that anymore, and nobody cares if it doesn't work there."

Now if you have to support an environment where they're still stuck with IE (and I know there are such places), well, I can offer only moral support, but nothing substantial. I wouldn't even know which places to read and which to skip, as on their forums they spend more time on explaining how to set IE up and "why didn't you mark my answer as helpful, I'm an MVP" than on actual meat of the matter.
