Full Text Indexing and Searching:

WinDev allows you to index character fields and memo fields (any combination) to build a fully searchable index on the contents of the fields selected. The creation of the index and maintenance of it is very fast. Plain text, RTF text, HTML can all be included plus the ability to include/exclude the HTML or RTF formatting tags from the search. You can then do searches by providing a list of words to be found using + prefix to state the word must be found, - prefix to say the word must not be found, * suffix to state the word starts with, quotes to force exact match searching, etc. The search is done via a query which returns what we would call a cursor which can then be parsed to extract various information. The search also does a relevancy ranking which takes into account the frequency of the words found and other aspects.

Did a test search on 2.5 million record database for a search of 2 random words, both must be found, against two combined string fields of 100 characters total and found 73 results effectively instantly.
