>>Now you can focus on what's really important, the NCAA tournament ;-) Lots of projected #1 and #2 seeds have been taking it in the shorts in their conference tournaments. I don't think it matters enormously what your exact seed is but this does illustrate that anything can happen when it comes tournament time.

>Over the last few years, the unwritten theme of the selections was, "Who did you lose to?" This year, it clearly was, "Who did you beat?"

>If Joel Embiid can come back for KU, my final four is KU, Michigan State, Arizona, and Wichita State, with KU and Wichita State in the finals, with KU winning.

>Here would be the grandest irony of all. Last year, Gonzaga was the #1 seed overall, and lost in the 2nd round. That put a very sour taste in the mouth of anyone who ever wanted to defend mid-majors. Well, imagine if Gonzaga - a team with many issues right now and a weak inside game - made it to the final four.

The head of the selection committee was on the selection show yesterday and was asked specifically about SMU and Wisconsin-Green Bary among the teams that didn't make it. He was explicit about SMU: they played a very weak non-conference schedule. Their strength-of-schedule ranking was somewhere around 320. The lowest ranking among teams that made the tournament was around 290.

He was also asked about Louisville's #4 seed. He said there was a tremendous amount of discussion, both among the committee as a whole and a subcommittee which focuses on the top 16 seeds. He said they wound up settling on #4 but left the clear implication it could have been higher. Louisville has not only been winning, they have been destroying teams.

Kerry Miller of the Bleacher Report has his entire bracket, with comments, up at http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1995077-march-madness-2014-who-got-screwed-in-the-ncaa-bracket?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial&hpt=hp_t3. He projects Michigan State beating Louisville in the final. That wouldn't surprise me. Michigan State has been tough all season. I watched them dismantle a very good Michigan team in the Big 10 championship game yesterday.

I am not making any predictions or filling out a bracket. I always wind up cheering for my picks instead of just enjoying the games. As always, I can't wait for the tournament.

My Badgers sure got a lot of love in the seedings for a team that did not win the regular season conference championship and lost in the tournament semis. (In fairness, the toughest game Michigan State had). They get to play their first two games in Milwaukee. It's nice to see a Wisconsin team with some offensive firepower but I still don't see them going too far. Whoops, that was a prediction. But you can bet I will be cheering for them. My Bucky Badger T shirt is going in the wash so it will be ready to go at the end of the week.

Enjoy!
