>>>>>>Heck your religion won't even admit when they're obviously scientifically incorrect. I think Galileo is a prime example of that one...geeze dude.
>>>>>
>>>>>The way I see it, the situation with Galileo (and many other people) had more to do with those people who were in authority at the time than it did with the religion itself. Much has been done in the name of religion, but in many cases you find that the motiviation might not be so pure.
>>>>
>>>>Foolish to think that. Catholic Church apologized to Galileo (who died in 1642) in 1992. Look anything that involves logic or science, or for that matter common sense, - is rejected by the church because the church doesn't want people to have the ability to think for themselves with knowledge of science because if they do then church is laughing stock due to the laughable things in the bible. I would be more than happy to provide you with a list of scientifically incorrect things in the bible but I would not live long enough to compile such a list.
>>>
>>>I'm apt to believe that the Church had found itself in a rather uncomfortable position politically. It had been promoting itself as an authority of The Truth and perhaps professing a few things that it probably shouldn't have. If they were to admit to being wrong about one point, what other points could they be wrong about? As a political entity, that's not a good place to be. It's not to say I'd particularly agree or defend what The Church did, it's just that I don't really find their response very suprising.
>>
>>Exactly. Due to the nature of the religion they can't suddenly start saying 'oops gosh we were wrong about that' because then they've started down the path of common sense and logic and science - all of which don't work with this religion (and pretty much all religions). The object of the church then has to be too keep people in the dark and seek followers who, for whatever reason, are willing to void their own common sense. The way they (and the church) go about doing this is of course extremely manipulative and life-controlling. People often think that Fidel Castro traveled to the vatican because oooh he must of found god. What a bunch of crap - duh! the guy went there (as a dictator) to see how the heck such a tyranny has managed to fool/control all these people for 2,000+ years - duh! So what you end up with is a bunch of bozo's running around trying to prevent schools from teaching things like evolution, that the earth is (helloooo) a bit older than 5,000 years and no dinosaurs ever really existed, some dude lived to be like 600 years old and manged to get every type of animal on the planet on his homemade boat, talking snakes, magic apples, etc etc etc etc. Oh and it's also important for the clowns to go out and seek more clowns. And if 2 clowns are married no birth control - that way you have more clowns and thus the church has more money. I just find it amazing that people who are otherwise reasonable, sensible, and intelligent fall for such insane fairy tales. Try to approach one with logic and science all you hear is them saying they're right because god told them so and by the way you're going to hellllll! aaaaahhh!
>>On the bright side the church's numbers are diminishing quickly - people now days are just too smart to be fooled by such lunatics - which is another reason the church has no choice but to attempt to isolate it flock from the rest of the world (the real world) and try political maneuvers to prevent our teachers from teaching the children.

>I agree with everything you just expressed, for me it's even more frustrating when educated and logical people like Rick (I am assuming he is very logical, you need logic to be a programmer) preaches everyone and avoids to answer direct questions in a reasonable way. For him the only valid answers are "Jesus changed me", "faith", "the bible says so", "search for the truth", blah blah. If people that has more chances of understanding all of what you expressed so well in the previous paragraph don't do it, imagine more naive people.

A while back I wrote a very long post out here to you-know-who about some of the obvious flaws with the religion - for example how its nothing more than a ripoff of Mediterranean religion or two before it. I had some thing very well laid out, very sorted questions. Just as you would expect he started censoring my comments and such when he responded, then actually refused to answer some very direct questions. He reason for not answering was that the devil would not let him answer the questions.
I really which I could find that post I wrote with the questions too - since I'm so cheap (ask any girl I've ever dated haha) I just have a free account so I can't search for it. I suppose if someone with paid account looked for word 'Mediterranean' in posts from me you might find it.

>In my country a previous government tried to distribute contraception and teach people about the benefits of it's use, and all the christian churches (who usually critic each other) got together to create a common front against such a diabolical plan. They prefer to have thousands of kids with nothing to eat, nothing to wear, without a roof, etc.

...not to mention sexual diseases and such too. ..although many bible-thumpers think such things like AIDS iwas put here by their all-loving god to punish the evil gays..hahaha.

>It's just disgusting, and the worst is that they succeeded.

Yeah for now. But as the internet-age kids grow up you can expect to see the bible-thumpers numbers dwindle.
