There are several reports of leaders high up in the church who essentially blew off the "Pope's Pivot" on condoms.

And re: the hospital in Ireland, I find it incredible that you can't acknowledge that a religion context did not exist in the hospital in a country with extremely strict abortion laws . Even with Ireland's court ruling in 1992, doctors in Ireland have admitted they're scared to perform an abortion procedure for fear of losing their medical license or being charged with a crime. It creates a catch-22 situation....a doctor might be hesitant to declare that a woman's life is truly in grave danger....and when finally declared to be in grave danger, it might be too late.

The woman's husband has stated (for the record) that he was told by doctors in the hospital that "we don't do abortions here, we're a Catholic hospital". His lawyers also state that the hospital altered medical notes after the fact. Clearly, I wasn't there....but I will not drop the context of what doctors in the country have admitted - they're fearful of consequences either way. That Catch-22 exists because of the context of the position of the church. Even govt officials in the most conservative districts have said they won't uphold the court ruling from 1992. Occam's Razor
