Can someone recommend a flavor of Python and perhaps a framework and/or IDE that they have experience in? Purpose would be general programming with a leaning towards game development (maybe).
I haven't used it but one option would be the Raspberry Pi, whose main programming language is (I understand) Python. Designed in the UK for teaching computing science:
