>>In general, I don't follow the concept of the "public good". It's not part of my values to evaluate things by social standards.

On purely selfish grounds, you must follow the concept of the public good. Otherwise you'd be fighting for food and at home protecting your family. Instead you rely on other members of society peaceably conducting business at minimum wage so you can go out and earn a packet and on your way home stop at a supermarket with shelves stocked with desirable goods at inviting prices. Were you on the other side of that equation, still you'd follow the concept of the public good otherwise you'd form a mob and riot. To scoff at this finely balanced equation is said to be one of the defining characteristics of the 1%.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
