>>>Safe being the important adjective here IMO - either you are able to hop into a jurisdiction where it's legal or legality will take a flying leap...

>>Unfortunately, there's a lot of area that has lost its low-cost (or no-cost) women's health clinic simply because it performed abortions one day a week. So finding a clinic is harder. Here in Texas, that pretty much means that anyone living west of San Antonio has an 8 - 12 hour drive one way to even get to a clinic. Team that up with the fact that many states are now requiring a 'cooling off' period between the initial visit (with it's required ultrasound) and the actual procedure (usually 2-3 days, if I'm remembering what I've read correctly), that's another trip - assuming you have the time to take off from work - so we're talking 24 - 48 hours driving, not counting time in the actual office, etc.

Forcing a rigmarole with the cooling off period - no way to have your local doc make the necessary bureocratic/diagnostic steps and schedule the treatment after the cooling off period - even on the danger that some procedures will be done again at the clinic for safety measures ?

Not the way the law here has been written. And to make the drive once should be enough except, again, for the new law. And, statistically speaking, legal abortions are MUCH safer than childbirth. And the irony is that all these old men are pushing these new laws for "women's health", yet these laws are closing many clinics in areas where the nearest hospital may be hours away - so these women are even losing out on yearly exams and contraceptives. I love to sit down with some of these lawmakers and have them explain to me how this is helping "women's health"

Remember, some people believe that the fact that I have a uterus means I can't think for myself or make informed decisions for myself.
