Thomas,

Can you elaborate on why you say the increase in JavaScript's popularity is mostly due to node.js? I know node is a booming server-side JS library but there are also some booming client-side libraries (Angular, Breeze, Knockout, Backbone, Bootstrap, etc.). The reason I ask is I am making a fairly sizable personal bet on JavaScript /jQuery tools and hope I am not focusing in the wrong place.

>Most of the good ideas from Rails went into Python (and JS) web frameworks - but there are many frameworks in the other languages, making another choice necessary. With Django you certainly picked the biggest and best supported one. Web2Py is the other "global" web fwk in py IMO, but the trend there is to build your own web fwk package from several micro-fwks. Micro-fwks are a good idea if you do this every day for different clients, but raises the barrier for the first 1 or 2 apps a bit.

And JS is gaining popularity - thnks mostly to node.js - so in my opinion the decision should fall between Python and Javascript. Python being more elegant and expressive, JS with the benefit that you must have some idea of it IAC for the client side.
