>>>If you're learning French have you come across the Michel Thomas CDs (search it on Amazon) ?
>>>Best way to get to speak the language - no emphasis on grammar or spelling.
>>>He makes an interesting observation : 90% of French verbs are identical to English except for pronunciation, Say the English equivalent with a French accent and the chances are it will work. But of course the most commonly used verbs and nouns are the exceptions :-{

>>I will check out the Michel Thomas CD; after I finish my current course. I am going through Pimsleur French 1 (finished 28 of 30 lessons). I very much like Pimsleur approach; which sounds much like what you described the MT CD. Pimsleur is all about sound; no reading; no grammar. The main thing about his (Paul Pimsleur) approach is "spaced repetition." Once I finished with French 1 I will immediately start with French 2. Then I will see if I will go to French 3 or maybe try something different.
>>Thank you for the recommendation.
>>P.S. Besides Pimsleur I also listen to some lessons on youtube in Spanish; for Spaniards who want to learn French. My Spanish is good enough that I can easily follow the lessons. Which helps to reinforce my Spanish and learn some French.
>>(I wish I had as much desire to learn new technical things <g>).

>Pimsleur (just googled it) sounds very similar to Michel Thomas.
>My partner is half French/ half Russia; grew up in France and speaks it fluently. Brother-in-law is French. Both thought the approach was good.
>(Actually, thinking about it she's half English, quarter French, quarter Russian)

You are lucky that, if you decide to learn French, you have someone you can talk to. My wife speaks only Russian and English and she is (selfish) completely against me looking for French speaking girl friend. But my wife says that she likes that I study French since everything sounds very sexy in French. Even when I say something like "what is the good road to Paris?" in French <bg>.
