>>Maybe, if we're lucky, this might continue the discussion on the objectification of women by some men and get MEN to start calling other men on these behaviors.
>
>Yes, absolutely, there are men out there who are jerks towards women. I've stood up against men who pulled garbage against women, long before I became a father to a daughter. I'm all for a discussion about getting men to respect the rights and basic dignity of all individuals.
>
>And I'll call out a man - the kid's father for posting all sorts of nude women on his site. What kind of message is the father sending to his son?
>
>But what SHOULDN'T be a legitimate part of the conversation (and I realize you didn't bring this up) is where this #YesAllWomen posting has gone. The signal-to-nose ratio on that one is getting really bad. Here are a few "gems"
>
>"“Here’s to never hearing a dude tell a woman to ‘smile’ ever again"
>"When I asked for Happy Meal and didn’t specify a gender, they gave me ‘boy’ toys. Male is the default"
>"If I don’t feign an interest in what the too-friendly grocery clerk is telling me, everyone in line will judge me"
>
>And in fairness, I found a good one:
>
>"Because I'm raising a son. Respect, admiration, and appreciation instead of anger, contempt, and entitlement"

>Yes, in the #YesAllWomen thread, there are some serious posts about serious topics. But too much of it is taking a horrible tragedy and turning it into a "you go girl", "I want to talk about me" style narcissism that completely trivializes the murder of six innocent people. Being the "victim" of a "hey, smile" line doesn't compare to being a victim of a hateful crime. I'm far more interested in getting to the bottom of people having the means to truly harm women (or anyone) than I am in minor social disconnects.

Ok, I'll play....

Why IS it ok for men to tell women to 'Smile' all the time, yet rarely tell other men that? Is every man out there somehow the arbiter of women's attitudes?
Why IS it ok to tell girls that like playing with 'boys' toys that they're wrong wrong WRONG and should be in the 'pink' aisle? Why are toys 'gendered' anyway? Geebus Crispy! I grew up on Legos and Lincoln Logs and making models.

As a man, a fairly rare man, who will step up when he sees "men who pulled garbage against women"; you need to understand that we see this every day. EVERY day. And not just because 'we go looking for it', but because it's being stuck in our faces all the time. And when your daughter hits around the age of, oh, four or so - this is what she's going to be drowning in.
