They are running a cupcake business. But they do not want to pay for those high off the shelf sotware. They need to track their expenses and determine how much $$ they are spending per cupcake, job, cake etc.

So eventually it will allow them ot see how much they are spending on cake ingredients and how much they are getting paid (over or under).
