I think this is inconclusive. There may be some correlation but I'm not sure that the causation goes in the direction they assumed. First off, they wouldn't be trusted by the smart among the cynical oldsters, so there's the sample bias from the outset. Then there's those in the sample who are cynical because they were somewhat demented already and became cynical after being screwed so many times...
