The convention in publishing is to use only 0 degrees (i.e. no) rotation, or what is usually called 90 degrees rotation i.e. 90 degrees counterclockwise. If by 270 degrees you mean the rotation such that you read the field contents from the top down, you may want to rethink that.

Also, are you having trouble with the width, or the height? Those dimensions still refer to the same things, even though the field is rotated. You may want to look at report margins and whether the designer is set to show the whole page or only the printable area (if applicable). You could also try clearing the printer environment if you're not doing that already.
