Well, I see it differently. I think there is a distinction between physical addiction and issues of judgment/stupidity. That's not to say a person with a physical addiction can't also have horrible lapses of judgment.

There can also be psychological addiction and issues with cognitive decision making.

Don't get me wrong, none of this absolves any negative actions nor should it impact consequences.
