Both Tom Friedman and David Brooks in recent columns have summarized Obama's foreign policy as "Don't do stupid sh*t." and have praised that notion, while faulting him on other points.
Unfortunately around 2003 both of them put forward persuasive cases for "action against Hussein." and were in part responsible - along with most of the rest of the media - for this country's making one of the most serious foreign policy blunders since Vietnam - some seriously stupid sh*t.
The problem is with the word "action." With our huge standing military establishment, that quickly leads to violence and blunders like Iraq.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
