I have been watching a lot of the International Diving Competition on TV. You may also see it listed in your program guide as the FIFA World Cup.

The sad thing is one of the Laws of the Game specifies a card if you fake being fouled. Unfortunately it is almost never enforced. IMO that would clean up the big stain on what is indeed a beautiful game. This has been an entertaining tournament so far, a change of the guard in some respects. Some traditional powers and players have diminished while other teams and players have risen up.

My favorite sign of the tournament so far was held up by a Chilean fan at the conclusion of the Chile-Spain match. Spain was not only the defending World Cup champs, they have also won world championships and been ranked the #1 squad in the world for several years. For them to be eliminated in two games was nothing less than stunning. The sign: "Adios Espana."

Much more predictably, England was also eliminated in two games. Portugal, the #4 ranked team, nearly followed them before scoring a last minute goal tied the U.S. yesterday. They look like Christiano Ronaldo and a bunch of guys who were pulled off a bus.
