Exactly.
The fundamental question was whether or not certain groups were being unfairly denied consideration of their applications for tax exempt status.
There is nothing in the constitution that guarantees anyone tax exempt status.
This whole thing is a creation of politicians - in both parties- seeking ways to get people to give them money to preserve their fiefdoms.
A group applying for tax exempt status is seeking some kind of special political privilege that vast majority of US citizens .. the schlubs like me.. will never get.
The decision to grant that status or not, or to consider it at all is a judgment call by the IRS, and guess what.. it's by definition a political judgment.
So, maybe some groups were put at the end of the line and had to wait longer for their special status.
Yes- it will be hard to make that seem important to people who don't have people getting tax deductions for helping them keep their jobs.
