Just a SWAG, but are you running on an AMD K6-family processor perhaps? I remeber seeing something on ZiffNet last week on a floating point bug with the K6 processor; I thought the problems were limited to Win95 and the K6-2 processor, but I could easily be wrong about this.

If this is the case, there are apparently fixes in the pipe from AMD. You might want to check www.amd.com if you're in this situation.
