>Exactly. There was a report on NPR this morning about the joblessness rate for those between 16-24, nearly 40%. There biggest complaint is that there are no jobs out there, which is a result of the economic downturn and raising minimum wages around the country to 15$.

When I was a teenager I had 2 jobs.
I caddied during the summer and set up pins in a bowling alley during the winter.
Caddies have been replaced by golf carts and automatic pin spotters do the job in bowling alleys.
Some of my buddies mowed lawns. That work has been taken by immigrants.
Others pumped gas. Now people pump their own in most states.
Some worked as helpers on construction sites. Almost no construction going on around here and the few sites use immigrants as helpers.
We have 40-50 year old fathers and mothers trying to support their families by bagging groceries in the supermarkets here. That work was once done by school kids.
There are no jobs for a lot complicated reasons - automation is a large factor, the death of manufacturing in the US, the lingering recession, and globalization are a few.
My two teenage grandsons can't find any summer work. Granted, they're not as hungry as I was at that age, but they do their share of looking and it's just not out there.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
