>A person making minimum wage probably takes home $250/wk. Rent is 2 weeks work, utilities another weeks work - which leaves about $250 for food/gas/sundries. For the month. On what money are they supposed to go to school? "Take out loans" you say? Ya still gotta be enrolled at least 'half-time' which, I'm guessing is 6-9 hours. And the Fed loans (the easiest) max out around 27,500.

Oh, Cry me a river.. When I got out of the military, I was 38 and completely unemployable because my skills were in foreign languages and interrogation. Anybody hiring linguists only wanted native speakers, etc. Being the wrong color and sex to get welfare for my wife and 5 teenage kids, I traveled the roads picking up scrap metal and delivering pizzas for domino's. My kids didn't understand that Dad couldn't find work and had no money for food. You do what you have to do and you don't moan and complain about how horrible your life is. You make it better. I did....

I guess the moral of the story is I will never support handouts to people in the form of 15-25 dollar an hour minimum wage, when there are salaried people who don't make any where near that. I would have jumped for joy to be paid that handsomely in the military. When I got out and looked at my SSN reports, my highest paid year in the military, I made 14,000.

I struggled and went to school nights to finish my BS and get my MBA. Because of that effort I was able to land a decent job, 2 years after I got out of the military. It only paid 30,000 but I thought I was in hog heaven. Hard work and tenacity since then has boosted my salary to a quite livable wage not bragging but it is close to 6 figures.
Where would I be now if I had allowed the bleeding hearts to give me what I needed, I'd still be in that sewer and that's the danger of handouts. It takes away all impetus to do something more, because its free. People think slavey ended with Lincoln, but I submit its alive and well in the liberal dole. They are slaves to the gubmint and their handouts.
