In the last day I've spoken to two retired U.S. captains, one active captain, and a civilian contractor - all four state that while the Swiss are very prepared, have special forces, a strong intelligence effort, etc. - they also benefit from our bases in nearby countries.

So I'll stand on my point - the U.S. commits military resources that benefit nearby countries directly or directly (and is also in our best interests)
