There is a lot of debate on the internet whether he deserved it or not. I'm not a fan of maradona's expressions and rants, but here I have to agree. There were other players that outperformed Messi on this tournament. Even within his own team there were one or two that performed better.

He was good in the group phase, but virtually invisible in the knock-out phase.
