Seems like a classic edge- or corner-case to me. In earlier versiohs of FPW/VFP users likely would have hit the former 2048 character command-line limit, so be forced to work around by:
- use multiple REPLACE commands
- something else, maybe like SCATTER/GATHER [array]
So, when the command-line limit was raised to 8,192 they didn't care, they already had something that worked.
