Take a look at www.winamp.com, they have the winamp.exe mp3 player - it doesn't exist on the taskbar, doesn't appear in the alt-tab list, it's not in the tray, if you minimize it it appears only after ctrl+alt+del in the task list. Yet it has a window and a name, but it doesn't need one. It can be run from a tray or from the taskbar or from none of these. It seems to be a regular Windows beast. It's freeware - used to advertise other products, and though it seems to be a Mac gang hackery ported into Win, it seems to be pretty much respecting the W95 guidelines. You may actually use it for experimenting with weird API behavior. Beware: it caches your CD in such a way that it takes you all day to persuade your machine that you did eject the old disc and inserted another. The only sure way I found is to kick it out while it plays.
