Hmm, I'll have to disagree. With a DOS app you communicate with the hardware directly, and can even bypass the OS. You don't (and shouldn't) do that in Windows. The best analogy I've heard is that, in DOS, your application is the dog, and the OS and hardware are the tail. In Windows, Windows is the dog, and your app wags when Windows tells it to.
