In a former life, I worked for a company that was a vendor to Walmart, so I spent some time in those stores.
I didn't see anybody in chains.
The smarter and more ambitious workers found better jobs.
The lifers seemed to think they had found the best job they could for themselves.
They were probably right. Walmart seemed to get good work out of seemingly marginal workers.
The real victims of Walmart are Sears, KMart, and all the other retailers who Walmart has crushed.
Nothing sinister about it - Walmart just runs their stores a lot better.
Not sure about the reference to the environment.
Do they somehow produce more pollution than other retailers?
Or is the argument about mass consumerism and over-consumption in general?
