Title:
Summer movies redux
I am not a movie philistine. I appreciate Kurosawa, Truffaut, and Kieslowski as much as the next movie fan. But I also enjoy less ambitious flicks, ones which happen to be popular in summer. I have discovered some unexpected pleasures watching movies which were strictly escapes from the heat. (The last one of those was "Drive"). Sure, there are truly dumb summer movies that I wouldn't go to if you paid me. Maybe the standards just get relaxed a little. Pay 10 bucks for the movie, 5 bucks apiece for popcorn and a soda, sink into your comforting seat, watch a movie on the big screen, let them take your imagination, and descend into the atmosphere of childhood.
Works for me.
