That does work, but you do run into peculiar situations when your Windows username is not the same as your Windows username (e.g. I might have a Windows username "naoto", but the E-mail that I'm using might be "naoto1964@widgetmail.com"). Within the computer it appears that the local identity (in the example given "naoto") is being used -- but when I try to connect to a network share the E-mail username (in the example given "naoto1964") seems to be used, which of course tends to fail -- unless I explicitly specify the Windows username to use for connecting to the share (in this particular case, it's most easily done with a command script), otherwise the alternative is to set up all network resources as "public" (probably not something I'd want to do), or try to set up username aliases so that E-mail username is an alias for the local Windows username.

One thing that was discovered that was had me scratching my head for a while about the "built-in" version of Skype for Win8.x --- it appears to be a Modern application, so features like desktop sharing is unavailable because it is sandboxed.

>>So I'm finally starting to play around with windows 8.1 and noticed something that kinda bothers me. If I want to use things like Skype or OneDrive (and some other things) from the tile menu, it asks me to log into my tablet with my Microsoft Account. But doing so means now I'm logged into my PC with my MS account, not the account I setup for myself. That really REALLY stinks! For Skype it's easy enough work-around -I just run the desktop version of Skype and not the windows 8.1 version. But I want to use the windows 8.1 version. Is there a way around this? If not then Microsoft has ticked me off (again).
