>>I spoke at Iowa Code Camp for the first time a few weeks ago. What a great time it was. Kudos on being selected.

>Thanks, congrats yourself on your first one. Community events are great. It's challenging but it's worth it. To me, the biggest value is finding out how other people are using the tools. Nearly every event, someone will tell me they're using tool XYZ to do something, and I'll think, "wow, I never in a million years would have thought of that".

I've been an officer on our local INETA user group for 4-5 years now. I just got done with a regional speaking "tour" about Entity Framework info. I think I did 6 user groups in Eastern Iowa and ended with Code Camp. The best part for me is just finding people out there that are interested in the same things I am. I don't get that in my job and it frustrates me greatly, so it's nice to get that a few times per year. I've also had some people reach out to me about business opportunities, so that's awesome. And I won some money playing craps the night before. Booyah.
Very fitting: http://xkcd.com/386/
