An .OCX and a .DLL are really the same things under the hood (if you open either with QuickView, you'll see that they contain the same information in their headers; in fact, opening a .OCX with QuickView will end up with QuickView telling you it's a .DLL!) It's the registry entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, and not the file extension, that determine how to access objects regardless of the file extension they live in.
