Many of his supporters on the left (except a few, like one in Hamilton, NJ) are also annoyed by his detached , self-absorbed demeanor.
He really doesn't care what you or I think about what he does, Kevin. He probably never did, but now he has stopped pretending.

He gave me a rare insight into what he's thinking when an interviewer (I forget who it was) asked him a few months ago if he needed to polish up his political skills and get along with the other side better.
His answer was something like:
"I'm a black man whose middle name is Hussein and I was elected President of the US twice.
Don't you think that took a little political skill?"

I think he's made a few tactical mistakes along the way (like the passage of ACA) but he knows exactly what he's doing. So do his more insightful opponents (Mitt found it out the hard way) and that's why he has attracted the venom that he has.
