It's not the first time.
In a failed effort to combat a recession that they perceived to have been caused by slumping car sales during the late 50's the Eisenhower administration gave us the slogan:
"You auto buy now!"
Twenty years later, the pendulum had swung the other way and Gerry Ford wore a button saying:
WIN (Whip Inflation Now)
Neither slogan worked.
JFK helped to end the recession by cutting taxes and Paul Volcker whipped inflation by raising interest rates.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
