If I'm understanding this properly,
1 the user selects a record,
2 the record is stamped inside of a transaction - why is repeatable read needed?
3 the transaction ends
4 the user updates the record
5 the user saves the record.

If between 4 and 5 the user goes home ill, the record stays stamped. So there would have to be a way to un-stamp. Right?

How about this?
1 the user selects a record,
2 the transaction begins, the transaction rolls back if the user disconnects
3 the user edits the record
4 the user updates the record
5 the user saves the record.
6 the transaction ends
