And things get confusing too with common usage. In the USA, it's common to write dollar symbol before the amount -- however when read aloud it's stated after. An amount written as $123.45 is typically read aloud as "one hundred twenty-three dollars and forty-five cents". When writing dollar amounts one typically writes the units before the number, but when referring to amounts expressed in cents, then it is written afterwards -- thus you might see signs that read "Lemonade 15¢"
