>>There's the proverbial 500 lb elephant in the room - this situation has gotten WORSE under the current president

Yep. Everybody also has gotten older under the current president, and some people even died. Thanks, Obama.

I>> but you've got a lot to learn about what's actually going on this country. Someone had to finally say that to you - was hoping it would be someone else, but guess I'll have to be the one.

LOL. My biggest ignorance comes from reading actual papers rather than lay synopsis. In this case it's a comprehensive report based on a survey of Harvard Alumni whose experience crosses the globe, which if I understand correctly would be a slightly broader experience than yours. Apart from the unsustainable divisions they describe, they also point to falling competitive of US Inc., which is a terrible shame when the US used to be and easily still could be the one to beat.

In 2014 it may be easy for many to observe the "I'm OK, Jack" line of reasoning, but no man is an island. For example, income is no protection if it's not safe to make your way to the local store and even if you can get there, it's been looted. Arm yourself up- but where will you find your dinner?
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
