>As with lawyers, there are exceptional MD's who deserve respect. But they are harder and harder to find.

>I must be really fortunate. I had an outstanding surgeon for my recent hip replacement. I also have a very caring and responsive PCP. My dentist is also a really great doctor. I am so sorry that your experience with the doctors that you have dealt with has been so bad.

Last week, I was at an American clients practise with three MDs and went into the billing department to see how they handle billing for their patients. The first thing that struck me was that it was organised in a way to get the most money out of the insurance companies that smelled an awfull lot like fraud. And this was not the first time.

A certain procedure was 40.000 if the patient was covered by an insurance and in the end (by credits, bypassing the fraud filter), only 20.000 if the patient paid privately. The (exact) same procedure in most of Europe, less than 5000. Please explain ... ???

BTW, all three were great doctors... very friendly... but so would I if I was able to earn my money that way.

Most people, including most of the participants here, have absolutely no clue on how rotten American medical insurance coverage is; the level of fraud and the general quality of care. It cannot be any worse than it is now. Statistics have been pointing to this for years, but still people choose to turn their heads away because of their hate against a black democrat president that chooses to do something about it.

This attitude makes me sick.
